2 - Applying

  • The certificate of French nationality is free of charge.
  • If you live in France: contact the tribunal d’instance closest to you.
  • If you live abroad and:
    • you were born in France: contact the tribunal d’instance where you were born;
    • you were born abroad: contact the Service de la nationalité des Français nés et établis hors de France (30 rue du Château des Rentiers, 75013, Paris).
  • You have to go to the appropriate tribunal. If you cannot do so, please contact them for the procedure.
  • If you are under 18 years of age:
    • And less than 16 years old, your parents must apply for you, but your agreement is mandatory;
    • From the age of 16, you can apply without the agreement of your parents.

3 - In case of refusal

  • You can write to the Ministry of Justice, or make an appeal. There is no time limit.
  • Write to the Ministry of Justice:
  • Appeal to the district court for your home: the assistance of a lawyer is required (contact details of the lawyers on the website of the National Bar Council -CNB-).
